We knew we would get another dog at some point and just assumed it would be another rescue dog and possibly not another border collie and possibly a bitch this time but not just yet.....
A couple of weeks ago an acquaintance asked if we were still looking for a dog. Her friend, some farmers, had a collie puppy looking for a home. It turns out mum is an older mother - a 10 year old working dog who got together with the collie dog next door......
The owners didn't want any pups so the dog had an injection to terminate the pregnancy - it didn't work so she had the jab again - that didn't work either and she ended up having 2 pups!
They decided to keep one to train up to help on the farm and so the boy needed a home.....
I had always thought the right dog would find us - so even though we were anticipating a grown up female non-collie this one felt right. In a strange parallel with Matthew, who at 6 weeks was given a doom and gloom prognosis, and we were warned to be ready to think about withdrawing care and then in the course of 48 hours did an amazing u-turn, both pup and Matthew wanted to be/stay alive.
We went to see the pup yesterday who we have decided to call Wilf.
Like all puppies he is very cute! A bit smaller and more wobbly on his legs than his 'big' sister but at only 5 weeks he was doing well running around the garden and happy to play with Jack who seemed to get over his fear of puppies jumping up at him!
Going to arrange to collect him in the next few weeks so in the meantime have to get into the habit of putting anything chewable above puppy level!
Watch out cats......!

Oooh how exciting, i am now looking forward to getting to kow Wilf through your writing.
ReplyDeleteJoshua is still longing for his Guide Dog, it has been a long time since we had a Dog in the house.
